Private Directed Retreats

Throughout the year by arrangement

The Abbey Guest Center is able to provide a limited number of personal directed retreats. The length of retreat may be six or eight days. Please allow at least 30 days for us to arrange for a personal director for your retreat. (Suggested donation for a six-day directed retreat with individual session each day: $400; suggested donation for an eight-day directed retreat with individual session each day: $500).

 

Faith, Fun, Family and Fishing Weekend

Saturday through Sunday, May 19-20, 2012

Arrive in time Saturday afternoon to begin with 5:15 pm Evening Prayer with the monastic community, followed by dinner and an evening of fishing, a hay ride and a bonfire. A special fishing contest with prizes. Abbey fishing guru Karen Ceckowski will team up with members of the monastic community to lead a fun-filled family get-away at Conception Abbey. Sunday morning you will join the monks for Morning Prayer followed by breakfast, Mass and a very nice lunch. Bring a cooler, you can clean and take home your catch. No fishing licenses needed. Fishing lessons for the first time anglers. (Suggested donation for lodging, meals, conferences and materials: $35 per person, children 8 and under free)

 

A Benedict and Business Retreat: "Dealing with people in Benedict’s spirit"

St. Benedict dealt with a variety of characters in his monastery, a fact that is reflected in The Rule of St. Benedict. Join Br. Jacob Kubajak and Fr. Patrick Caveglia in exploring Benedict’s wise ways of dealing with people in daily life. Applications to business will reflect the education and experience of the presenters. Time for prayer, reading and walking. You’ll be able to join the monks for the Liturgy of the Hours and for the Eucharist. A Photography Retreat for Beginners and Beyond

Rural Conception Abbey offers a unique location for a retreat combining spiritual rest with artistic challenges and dialogue. Join seasoned photographers Karen Ceckowski, Br. Paul Sheller and Br. Patrick Caveglia and Karen Ceckowski in discussing An Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith by Barbara Brown Taylor (HarperCollins 2009.  ISNB 978-0-06-137047-2). Taylor writes of living faith in living life, from “the practice of waking up to God” to “the practice of pronouncing blessings.” We think you’ll find this book illuminating to read before the retreat and challenging to discuss with others over the weekend. There will be ample time for personal prayer, reflection and journaling. October 11, 2012, is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the beginning of the Year of Faith. Honor of legacy of fifty years and begin the Year of Faith by reflecting on the people of God and our common vocation to holiness. The retreat will be shaped by two towering documents of Vatican II: Lumen Gentium and Gaudium et Spes. You will enjoy engaging conferences by Fr. "You are the Clay" Pottery Retreat

"You are the claypottery retreat for beginners to experts. The retreat will provide hands-on experience working with clay, both wheel throwing and hand building techniques. No experience needed, just the desire to learn. Veterans welcomed as well. Hobbyist potter Karen Ceckowski will pass on some of the techniques she has learned from various sources. Karen and seminarians from the Abbey will provide a spiritual spin on the many biblical references to the master potter who forms and shapes us daily. Bring Bibles, old work clothes and an open spirit. (Suggested donation for lodging, meals, conferences, clay supplies, and reception: $180 for single accommodations, $150 per person for double accommodations)

 

Toward Holiness in Marriage: A Retreat for Married Couples

Fifty years ago, Vatican II called Catholics to recognize their common vocation to holiness, lived out in a diversity of ways. Join Fr. From December 17 to 24, the Church celebrates privileged liturgical days of special preparation for Christmas. These are the days marked by the “O Antiphons,” which present biblical titles and images of Jesus the Messiah for our reflection. Fr. Timothy Schoen and Fr. Patrick Caveglia will present ways of making the O Antiphons an important part of your Advent prayer in preparation for the Christmas feast. We’ll begin with coffee and rolls at 9:00. After the first conference at 9:30, you’ll have time for quiet reflection and prayer.  Mass and lunch follow, with more quiet time and a concluding conference at 3:00 pm. Ad Altare Dei Program for Catholic Boy Scouts

Catholic Scouts can use this opportunity to work on requirements concerning Holy Orders and Reconciliation for the Ad Altare Dei medal. The day includes meetings on requirements, Mass with the monks, lunch, recreation time, dinner and a closing communal Reconciliation service on Saturday evening. Overnight accommodations are available for groups wishing to come Friday night or stay for Lauds and Eucharist on Sunday. Karen Ceckowski leads the AGC team, and has been working with Scout troops for over 15 years. She will serve as the Ad Altare Dei counselor. (Suggested donation for conferences, meals and materials: $30 per person.  For an overnight stay, add $25 per person for lodging and extra meals.)

Etienne Huard on the joys of growing things in God’s wonderful creation. Marlene will share some of her design ideas for a simple Marian garden. Br. Etienne has tips on a successful vegetable garden. Br. Placid who tends the trees and grounds of the abbey will offer first hand ideas for your own landscapes. Karen will share techniques for propagating and cultivating seeds to save money as you expand or begin your gardens. There will be time for questions and scriptural reflections. Hands-on practice will send you home with cuttings and gifts from the abbey gardens. Time to pray the Liturgy of the Hours and celebrate the Eucharist with the monastic community is also a part of the weekend. (Suggested donation for lodging, meals, conferences and reception: $160 for single accommodations, $130 per person for double accommodations.)

A time to explore calligraphy – beautiful writing – as a pathway to better lectio divina – the prayerful pondering of Scripture so central to a vital Christian life. Br. Michael Marcotte, a talented and experienced calligrapher, will introduce you to a foundational hand and move from the basics of the lettering to the use of calligraphy in your prayerful reflection. No previous experience is required. Calligraphic markers, exemplars and paper will be provided. There will be time to celebrate the Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours with the monastic community, as well as time for reflection, practice and walks through the beautiful Abbey grounds in springtime.
