February 12-14 was Hispanic Weekend for the Junior class and Pre-Theology I students, 32 in all. The seminarians traveled to Kansas City, KS to All Saints Parish, a former Polish parish now a predominantly Hispanic parish. The students attended a traditional Mexican/Catholic wedding mass and the reception following. The seminarians were then introduced to their host families for the weekend, in many cases two seminarians to a family, but in some cases three or four.
On Saturday the seminarians were given a brief history of All Saints Parish and then spent the morning with their families. In the afternoon the seminarians had the opportunity to go to the Savior Pastoral Center and play volleyball, soccer, and basketball with Hispanic youth groups. Saturday night included a fiesta with both festive and religious dances along with presentations from different Parish organizations.
The weekend concluded on Sunday with seminarians sitting in on religious education classes at All Saints School and then Mass. During the Mass, three seminarians were invited to the ambo to say a few words about their experiences that weekend. After lunch following Mass, the seminarians said goodbye to their host families and headed back to Conception.
