This past Sunday we participated in the World Day of Prayer for vocations, which is quite a big deal here at the seminary. We had planned to have a Eucharistic procession and holy hour right after Mass, but it had to be canceled due to the windy weather. On Monday, we seminarians hosted a faculty and staff appreciation dinner in the student union. It was a great success and ran very smoothly. Many of the seminarians were there to thank the staff for their time and work here.

The biggest event of this week was by far the annual May Day, which was held on April 29th. On this day, instead of the regular schedule of classes, students are divided into two teams and participate in a variety of outdoor and indoor activities and sports. The day started at around 6:15 A.M. because of a long held tradition. This tradition dictates that the last person to get to the flagpole in the morning be thrown into Maria Loch, which is not exactly crystal clear waters. In the end five people were thrown in including: David Casarez from the Freshman class, Nathan Kennedy from the Sophomore class, Joe Sund and Matthew Krastel from the Junior class, and Chris Brown from the Senior class. After an early Mass at 7:00, the day began with a relay race across the soccer field in which everyone participated. The day passed by very quickly, with many big games such as soccer, football, and softball. Near the end of the day, some people were sporting some very red sunburns, but with happy faces. The final activity was the Tug of War, with everyone participating. For the first time ever, the rope we were using snapped and after a quick conference with the captains, the tug of war resumed with only ten people on each side. The day ended with a steak dinner and the handing out of the awards.
