The 16th Annual Abbey Trails 5K Run/2 Mile Walk & Health Fair took place this last Saturday, April 16th bringing 226 runners and walkers to the Conception Abbey & Seminary College Campus. This year's event drew 136 people for the 2 Mile Walk and 90 people for the 5K run. Participants enjoyed a brunch and the top three finishers in various age groups received prizes.
Jeremy Covey of Maryville, MO was the overall winner in the men’s category for this year, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 18:51, followed in second place by Anthony Davidson of Maryville, MO at 19:22. The women’s overall winner was Lindsey Derr of Maryville, MO who finished at 22:04, followed by Amy Holtman of Ravenwood, MO at 22:19. The age-group winners in the men’s 5K were: Trevor Smothers (13 and under); Benjamin Sporleder (14-19) Anthony Davidson (20-29); Jon Doolittle (30-39); John Jasinski (40-49); Tony Jennings (50-59); Rusty Fithen (60-69). The age-group winners in the women’s 5K were: Isabelle Mitchell (13 and under); Jullian Weeks (14-19); Rebecca Killgore (20-29); Amy Holtman (30-39); Judy Frueh (40-49); Shari Staehling (50-59). In the two-mile walk participants estimated their completion time before the event and then tried to finish closest to that time. The age-group winners in the men’s 2-mile walk were: Jacob New (13 and under), no winner in this category (14-19); no winner in this category (20-29); no winner in this category (30-39); Sean Joyce (40-49); Fr. Samuel Russell, OSB (50-59); Lawrence Boettcher (60-69); Dennis Wessling (70 and up). The age-group winners in the women’s 2-mile walk were: Gracie Wilson (13 and under); no winner in this category (14-19), Keysa Cummins (20-29); Stacey Mattson (30-39); Diane Jensen (40-49); Sue Swinford (50-59); Delsa Brooks (60-69); and Winnie Hummer (70 and over). The proceeds from Abbey Trails go to promote healthy lifestyles among the monks, seminarians and the surrounding communities. Since we are physical, intellectual, and spiritual beings, we here at Conception Abbey acknowledge exercise as an important factor in maintaining a balanced and healthy life.
