Conception Seminary college has busy weekend

Board of Regents meetings and annual Thunder Cup Soccer and Volleyball Tournament held at Conception Seminary College

Board of Regents.It was a busy weekend at Conception Seminary College in Conception, Mo. as they hosted their fall meetings of the Board of Regents and their annual Thunder Cup Soccer and Volleyball Tournament held October 13-15, 2017.

The CSC Board of Regents serves as a counseling and governing body for the seminary. Chairperson of the board Bishop Walker Nickless of Sioux City, Ia. called the meetings to order Friday evening followed by Fr. Brendan Moss, President-Rector, welcoming the Regents and delivering the Conception Seminary College Annual Report. Other sessions of the meetings included the discussion on the continued effort of implementing the new strategic plan guiding the seminary and approval of the budget framework for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

Other business included the induction of Mr. Jon Schnieders of Lenexa, Ks. to the Board for a three-year term.

Fr. Jeremy Secrist of St. Thomas, Mo. concluded his term of service at the conclusion of the weekend’s meetings and was thanked for his many years of service to the Board and as the President of the Alumni Association.

Saturday morning brought the commencement of the Thunder Cup Soccer Tournament with the first set of round-robin games. The Thunder Cup Soccer and Volleyball Tournament is an annual celebration of fraternity and sport among the attending seminaries. Despite the challenges brought by thunderstorms and cool temperatures, many spectators from the visiting seminaries came to cheer on their teams.

Seminaries in attendance were, St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward, Ne., Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Ne., St. Meinrad School of Theology, St. Meinrad, In., and St. John Vianney Seminary, in St. Paul, Mn., and Mundelein Seminary, in Mundelein, Il. Over 150 seminarians were welcomed to Conception Seminary College for the tournament.

Mundelein Seminary took home the soccer trophy with an early Sunday morning win over St. Gregory the Great Seminary, and St. Meinrad School of Theology came out on top of the volleyball tournament with a Saturday late night win over Mundelein Seminary.
