Conception Seminary College welcomes new and returning students

It has been a busy two weeks as twenty-eight new seminarians arrived on the campus of Conception Seminary College shortly followed by seminarians returning for a new year of formation. The halls of CSC, quieted during the summer months, are once again filled with the boisterous noise of seminarians getting to know each other, preparing for class, and meeting the faculty and staff of Conception Seminary College.

New seminarians arrived on campus Tuesday, August 15 for days of orientation and preparation for their first year in seminary. Hailing from as far away as the Diocese of San Angelo in Texas and as nearby as the Diocese of Jefferson City in Missouri, the new Sons of Thunder are eager to begin their time in priestly formation.

When asked what most excited him about his first year in seminary, sophomore Ben Klebba of the Diocese of Jefferson City said, “I’m excited about all aspects of formation: spiritual, academic, character – I’m hoping my time here will allow me to become the best man God wants me to be.”

Orientation concluded and the new academic year was officially commenced with Mass in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and Convocation on Sunday, August 20. Fr. Brendan Moss, O.S.B., President-Rector of Conception Seminary College, addressed the seminarians, faculty and staff gathered with these words:

“Priestly formation, according to the new ratio fundamentalis and most certainly in the words of Archbishop Patron-Wong, is a journey of transformation. For us, the journey of transformation must be Benedictine to the core.”

This year marks the 131st year of priestly formation at Conception Seminary College.
