“Listen to my voice” – Lenten Reflection by Peter Vengas

Jer 7, 23-28 Así dice el Señor: “Ésta es la orden que di a mi pueblo: ‘Escuchen mi voz, y yo seré su Dios y ustedes serán mi pueblo; caminen siempre por el camino que yo les mostraré, para que les vaya bien.” ¿Qué tan difícil puede ser escuchar la voz de Dios aquí en el seminario o fuera de el? De echo, a veces puede ser molesto como una mosca que trata de meterse en tu oído. Pero para ser sincero, tenemos que convertir nuestro “YO” en “yo” y al mismo tiempo entregar nuestros sentidos a Dios, y al hacerlo, Él nos hará libres, alegres y fuertes en tiempos de desesperación. No obstante, no siempre somos nosotros los que afectamos esto, también es el mundo el que nos rodea que, en un instante, nos lleva a hacer cosas en solo segundos. Entonces viene una pregunta ¿dedicas suficiente tiempo en silencio para escuchar la voz de Dios? Y si es así ¿qué dialogas con Él? Cuando escuchemos Su voz será como un susurro armonioso, amoroso y suave, que, como una melodía, derretirá tu corazón, y traerá ternura calmara las tormentas de tu alma, e intensificará el fuego de amor que tienes por Él.

JER 7:23-28 “Thus says the LORD: This is what I commanded my people: Listen to my voice; then I will be your God, and you shall be my people. Walk in all the ways that I command you, so that you may prosper.” How hard is this for us here in seminary or for the people outside to listen to God’s voice? I mean, sometimes it can be annoying like the fly that’s trying to go inside your ear. But to be honest, when we start to bring the “ME” to “me” and let God be the one who reigns over our senses, then we become free, and more joyful, or stronger even in torments. And it is not always we who make it hard but the world around us as well. It can be loud, and distracting and lead us to different ways in just a matter of seconds. So then ask yourself: Do I try to find silence in the day to try to listen to Him? And if you do, do you take the opportunity to listen, or do you do something else. When you do listen, His voice will not be as one being bothered, but a whisper that will sound harmonious, and loving, a melody that will melt your heart, and will bring warmth and comfort to your soul, and will enkindle the passionate fire in you for Him.
