Deacon Formation Program

The Deacon Formation program was established in 1989 to prepare candidates for ordination to the permanent diaconate through theological and pastoral formation. The coursework is designed to deepen the lives of prayer and faith of the candidates and their wives for preparation in parish and church ministry in the communities for which they are ordained.

Classes in the program cover a variety of areas, including:

  • Scripture and critical interpretation of the Bible
  • Fundamental theology
  • Christian morality in both its personal and social dimensions
  • Canon Law of the Church
  • History of the Church
  • Homiletics and liturgical practicum

Classes are offered during one week in August and one weekend each month from September to June over a period of three and one-half years.
